KAURI FORESTS AND BAY OF ISLANDS - 2 day tour
Departs Auckland every Monday, Wednesday, Friday year round - minimum 2 passengers
Day 1. AUCKLAND - KAURI MUSEUM AND FORESTS - BAY OF ISLANDS. (L)
Depart Auckland 7.30am. Drive north over the harbour Bridge and along the Hibiscus Coast to the Otamatea Kauri and Early Settlers Museum, one of the best little museums in New Zealand. Learn of the importance of the kauri tree to the development of Northland and see the lifestyle of the early settlers.
Continue through Ruawai 'kumara capital' of New Zealand, and Dargaville into the Waipoua kauri forest. Visit "Tane Mahuta" giant kauri tree - some 2000 years old. Enjoy the views of the Hokianga Harbour and sand dunes and our included fish, chips, and salad lunch before arriving in the Bay of Islands.
Visit the Waitangi Treaty House where the Treaty of Waitangi between Maori and the British Government was signed in 1840. Enjoy a tour with a local guide and see the giant war canoe. Accommodation and breakfast for 1 night in Paihia.
Day 2. BAY OF ISLANDS - AUCKLAND (B)
Morning cruise around the Bay of Islands and through the ‘Hole in the Rock’ - weather permitting.
Cruise past the islands and into secluded bays and stopover at Urupukapuka Island. Often dolphins are to be seen during the cruise. Disembark at historic Russell for a tour of the town including Flagstaff Hill.
Return to Auckland early evening. (Russell tour may be with a local operator and return to Auckland may be with Great Sights if 2-3 only are travelling.)

** All travel by mini or midi coach (minimum 2 - maximum 16 passengers) On day 1 travel is always in our vehicle with our driver/guide. Return to Auckland on day 2 will be with our vehicle for a minimum of 4. If less than 4 are travelling return may be with another operator, or by scheduled coach
